Circinius IV and the Destruction of Corbulo Academy

Corbulo Academy trained the sons and daughters of influential military families for future service in a conflict most cadets still understood as a struggle against human rebellion. The Covenant attack on Circinius IV destroyed that world in a matter of hours and showed a generation of future officers that the old war had become irrelevant. This episode examines the assault on the academy, the collapse of its defenses, and the intervention of John-117 and Blue Team during one of the early deployments of the Spartan-IIs against the Covenant. Cadets who had spent their time debating the legitimacy of the Insurrection suddenly confronted Sangheili, Kig-Yar, and Mgalekgolo whose objectives had nothing to do with human politics. Thomas Lasky and a handful of others escaped, but most of the academy and the planet’s population did not. Circinius IV demonstrates how quickly the Covenant War erased assumptions formed during the Insurrection. Humanity could continue arguing with itself only if humanity survived long enough to do so.
