The Battle of Atlantis ended through deception because even Daedalus could not destroy every Wraith hive converging on the city. After the first attackers were defeated, a much larger force remained on course, and another direct engagement risked the loss of Atlantis, its expedition, and Earth’s only secure foothold in Pegasus. This episode examines Rodney McKay’s plan to convert the city’s shield into a cloak powered by the newly delivered Zero Point Module. Atlantis disappeared from Wraith sensors while a nuclear detonation above the ocean simulated the city’s self-destruction. False evidence and the absence of a visible target convinced the approaching hives that the Lantean city had been annihilated. The Wraith withdrew rather than continue searching an apparently empty world. The operation preserved the expedition without requiring an impossible fleet victory, but secrecy became part of the defense. Atlantis survived because its enemies believed there was no city left to attack. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
