The Ancient Defensive Satellite

The Ancient defensive satellite offered Atlantis one powerful weapon against the approaching Wraith fleet, but only if an expedition team could restore a system dormant for ten thousand years. Positioned in space along the enemy’s route, the installation contained an energy weapon capable of destroying a hive ship with a single shot. This episode follows Rodney McKay, Peter Grodin, and the technicians who boarded the damaged platform, connected an Earth-built naquadah generator, and struggled to route enough power for one engagement. The satellite fired successfully and annihilated the lead hive, briefly suggesting that Ancient defenses might stop the siege before it reached Atlantis. Its depleted systems could not sustain the advantage. The remaining Wraith ships attacked before the weapon could fire again, destroying the platform and killing Grodin, who stayed behind to operate it.
