THE ATLANTIS EXPEDITION: AWAKENING THE WRAITH WAR

Wraith Biology: Feeding, Hibernation, and Immortality

S07E11

Wraith biology turns the human population of Pegasus into both prey and strategic resource. A Wraith feeds through an organ in the palm, drawing away a victim’s life while an enzyme keeps the body functioning through the process. The victim rapidly ages as the Wraith gains strength, heals injuries, and can restore a youthful appearance. This episode examines how feeding supports extraordinary longevity without making the species truly invulnerable. Wraith can survive wounds that would kill humans, but they still require nourishment and can be destroyed. Because Pegasus cannot sustain the entire population continuously, most Wraith enter long periods of hibernation between large cullings. Queens and Keepers regulate these cycles, while hive ships preserve dormant populations until feeding grounds recover. Their apparent immortality is therefore dependent on biology, logistics, and access to humans. Understanding that dependence becomes central to every later effort to negotiate with, weaken, or transform the Wraith. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
