The Siege of Atlantis and the Ancient Withdrawal

The first siege of Atlantis ended the Lantean age in Pegasus. After years of retreat, surviving Ancient forces withdrew to the city while Wraith ships controlled the surrounding galaxy and pressed against its shield. Atlantis was submerged beneath the ocean, where its defenses could endure bombardment as long as three Zero Point Modules continued supplying power. This episode examines the final military position of the Lanteans, the loss of their fleet, and the decision to abandon a city they could no longer defend indefinitely. Rather than allow the population to be trapped or consumed, the remaining inhabitants passed through the Stargate to Earth and left Atlantis operating under automatic systems. The retreat preserved lives and Ancient knowledge, but it also surrendered Pegasus to the Wraith and left human societies without their former protectors.
