The Ark of Truth attacked the Ori empire at its most important point: the conviction that Origin was divinely true. Created by the Alterans before their departure from the Ori galaxy, the device could reveal the truth of a proposition so completely that a viewer accepted it without ordinary persuasion. This episode examines SG-1’s search for the Ark, its capture by Ori forces, and Daniel Jackson’s effort to place it before the Doci. When the Doci saw that the Ori were false gods who fed on worship, the realization passed through the telepathic connection linking him to the Priors. Their conversion ended the organized authority sustaining Ori armies across the Milky Way. The victory avoided a prolonged campaign against every occupied world, but the Ark raised a serious ethical problem: it changed belief through technological compulsion. Stargate Command defeated a coercive religion with a device that bypassed free judgment, even though the truth it revealed was real.
