The foothold incident proved that Stargate Command could be captured without a fleet ever appearing above Earth. After SG-1 returned from a mission, Samantha Carter discovered that personnel throughout the SGC had been replaced by aliens using mimic devices to copy human appearance and voice. The occupiers controlled the gate room, command staff, and base infrastructure while preserving the illusion of normal operations. Carter escaped before replacement and turned to Colonel Maybourne, an unlikely ally whose suspicion of the SGC made him willing to investigate. Together they exposed the infiltrators and exploited a frequency that disrupted their disguises, allowing loyal forces to retake the facility. The attackers’ species and larger objectives remained largely unexplained, which made the operation more disturbing rather than less. “Foothold” revealed that biometric familiarity, rank, and routine could all be manufactured. Defending the Stargate required verifying identity itself, not merely guarding doors against visibly hostile intruders. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
