Langara’s greatest resource nearly became the cause of its destruction. The planet’s three major powers—Kelowna, Tirania, and the Andari Federation—maintained a tense political balance while Kelownan scientists developed naquadria, an unstable isotope capable of releasing enormous energy. Research intended to produce strategic independence created a nuclear-arms crisis when an experimental accident exposed Daniel Jackson to lethal radiation and political leaders attempted to conceal responsibility. Jonas Quinn rejected the official cover story and aided Earth, eventually bringing him to Stargate Command, but his actions did not end Langara’s rivalries. Kelowna later built a naquadria bomb as a deterrent, Anubis invaded to seize the technology, and instability deep within the planet threatened a catastrophic chain reaction. Langara shows how advanced energy research can intensify insecurity when rival states expect betrayal. Naquadria offered power, defense, and prestige, but its volatility made every political miscalculation potentially planetary in scale.
