Cronus was one of the most powerful old System Lords and the ruler whose cruelty shaped Teal’c’s family long before the formation of SG-1. When Teal’c’s father, Ronac, failed to win an impossible battle, Cronus ordered his execution and disgraced the family, teaching Teal’c that Goa’uld claims of justice were subordinate to pride and fear. This episode examines Cronus as both imperial statesman and personal tyrant. He participated in high-level negotiations among the System Lords and possessed the military strength expected of the old guard, yet his authority rested on the same arbitrary violence used throughout the empire. His later encounter with robotic copies of SG-1 on Juna brought that history to a direct conclusion when the duplicate Teal’c killed him. Cronus’s death weakened the established balance and opened territory for other rulers, but its deeper significance was symbolic. A Jaffa bearing Teal’c’s identity destroyed the god who had broken his household. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
