THE GOA’ULD EMPIRE: GODS, ARMIES, AND SYSTEM LORDS

Sokar: Terror, Hell, and the Army of Netu

S02E13

Sokar built his power around terror so complete that other Goa’uld feared him as much as his human subjects did. Adopting the role of a devil rather than a benevolent god, he ruled from Delmak and transformed its moon, Netu, into a prison deliberately modeled as hell. This episode examines how fire, deprivation, torture, informants, and the authority of the prison governor Bynarr turned Netu into both a punishment complex and a political weapon. Sokar’s return from presumed destruction threatened the existing System Lord balance, especially after he captured Apophis and prepared a major military offensive. His regime demonstrated the limits of Goa’uld religious strategy: where worship was unnecessary, terror alone could enforce submission. The Tok’ra operation involving Jolinar’s memories and SG-1’s infiltration of Netu ended with the moon’s destruction, which also destroyed Sokar’s vessel and halted his rise. Sokar’s fall proved that fear could create obedience, but not reliable loyalty or strategic resilience. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
