Most ground combat in Halo is fought by ordinary infantry organized into small teams rather than by Spartans operating alone. This episode examines the Marine fireteam as the basic unit through which weapons, movement, observation, and leadership are combined at the tactical level. Individual Marines bring rifles, automatic weapons, precision fire, explosives, communications equipment, and specialized skills that become far more effective when coordinated. One element can suppress an enemy while another moves; leaders identify priorities and maintain contact with supporting vehicles, aircraft, or higher headquarters. Covenant infantry creates different tactical problems depending on whether Marines face Unggoy masses, Kig-Yar marksmen, Sangheili leaders, or heavy Mgalekgolo. Terrain also changes everything. A fireteam fighting through a ship corridor behaves differently from one crossing open ground or defending a city block. Marine effectiveness comes from collective action. Halo’s infantry survive not because every soldier is exceptional, but because disciplined teams can make several ordinary weapons behave like one larger weapon.
