Atriox begins as a Jiralhanae warrior repeatedly sent into battles the Covenant considered expendable. He survives, rebels, and builds the Banished into something the old empire cannot easily destroy. This episode examines the organization’s growth from a Covenant-era insurgency into one of the postwar galaxy’s major military powers. Atriox rejects the Prophets and the Great Journey, but he does not reject conquest. His movement attracts Jiralhanae packs, Sangheili mercenaries, engineers, Kig-Yar, Unggoy, and others who value victory, profit, protection, or revenge more than religious unity. Banished forces seize matériel, control industrial sites, modify Covenant weapons, and give individual commanders considerable freedom as long as they remain useful. The Covenant could dismiss rebellion as heresy; the fragmented postwar galaxy cannot coordinate a similar response. By the time humanity understands the Banished as more than raiders, Atriox has already built a military confederation capable of fighting armies, occupying Forerunner installations, and surviving the loss of entire worlds.
