The Master Chief returns to the galaxy in 2557 when the drifting remains of the Forward Unto Dawn encounter Requiem, an enormous Forerunner shield world containing technologies and dangers untouched for more than one hundred thousand years. This episode examines the campaign that pulls John-117 and a deteriorating Cortana into the installation and eventually brings the UNSC Infinity into the same conflict. Jul ’Mdama’s Covenant already regards Requiem as sacred ground, but the greatest threat lies inside the Cryptum containing the Ur-Didact. The Chief unknowingly releases the ancient Warrior-Servant, expecting another Forerunner intelligence rather than a commander who still sees humanity as a threat to the Mantle. The Didact immediately resumes a conflict that ended before modern civilization existed, seizing control of Promethean forces and pursuing technology capable of transforming human beings into digital soldiers. Requiem demonstrates how the past can return without caring whether the galaxy remembers the war it intends to continue.
