Operation FIRST STRIKE and the Unyielding Hierophant

The survivors of Alpha Halo do not return quietly to Earth. Master Chief, Cortana, Avery Johnson, and other survivors reconnect with Spartan-IIs from Reach and discover intelligence pointing toward a massive Covenant staging force preparing to attack humanity’s homeworld. This episode examines Operation FIRST STRIKE and the decision to attack the Unyielding Hierophant, an enormous Covenant command-and-repair station supporting the invasion fleet. The operation combines captured enemy technology, Spartan infiltration, sabotage, and one of the most destructive strikes humanity conducts before the Battle for Earth. By destroying the station and much of the fleet gathered around it, the Spartans eliminate a force that could have made Earth’s defense even more hopeless. The mission does not prevent invasion altogether, because the Covenant is too large and politically fragmented for one strike to stop every force moving toward humanity. FIRST STRIKE instead buys something the UNSC desperately needs: time, reduced enemy strength, and one more chance to prepare Earth.
