REBELLION AND THE LONG WAR

Meridian and the Collapse of the Outer Colonies

S05E24

The destruction of the Outer Colonies was not one campaign ending on one date. It was a long collapse in which human worlds disappeared from the strategic map faster than the UNSC could defend or replace them. Meridian demonstrates what that process looked like on the ground. This episode examines the colony’s importance, the Covenant attack that eventually devastated it, and the wider pattern of evacuation, resistance, and glassing that transformed once-prosperous settlements into abandoned ruins. By the middle years of the war, most Outer Colonies had already been lost, removing populations, industry, agriculture, recruits, and strategic depth from the human war effort. Surviving worlds became increasingly isolated as the Covenant pushed toward the Inner Colonies. Every defeat shortened the distance between the enemy and Earth. Meridian’s later history would show that humans could return to glassed worlds and attempt rebuilding, but during the war its fall belonged to a much darker pattern: humanity’s frontier was being erased system by system.
