REBELLION AND THE LONG WAR

The Colonial Military Administration and the First Insurrectionists

S05E03

Before the UNSC became the dominant military authority across human space, much of colonial security rested with the Colonial Military Administration. This episode examines the CMA, its military forces, and the increasingly difficult task of policing settlements whose populations were becoming hostile to Earth-centered authority. The CMA had to protect shipping, respond to piracy, secure infrastructure, and confront separatist organizations across enormous distances with uneven resources. That mission also placed it directly inside the political grievances driving rebellion. Insurrectionist sympathizers infiltrated colonial institutions, military units, and local governments, while heavy-handed security measures convinced more civilians that independence might be preferable to UEG rule. As the conflict intensified, the UNSC gradually assumed greater responsibility and the CMA lost influence. The transition reflected more than bureaucratic rivalry. Humanity was changing from a system of loosely administered colonies into a civilization preparing for internal war, and military power was moving toward the institution most capable of fighting that war on an interstellar scale.
