The Marine Corps: Expeditionary War Across the Colonies

The UNSC Marine Corps goes wherever the Navy can deliver it. Marines board hostile ships, secure orbital facilities, assault planetary objectives, defend landing zones, operate armored vehicles, and fight through cities after naval battles have moved overhead. This episode examines the expeditionary service most frequently encountered beside Spartans during Halo’s ground campaigns. Marines deploy from warships aboard Pelicans and other transports, allowing naval commanders to project ground combat power without maintaining permanent armies on every world. Their missions range from counterinsurgency in human colonies to desperate defenses against Covenant invasion and containment operations against the Flood. Marine units bring infantry, reconnaissance, heavy weapons, vehicles, aviation support, and specialized personnel into one deployable force. They are neither disposable background soldiers nor miniature Spartans. Most of humanity’s battlefield experience belongs to ordinary Marines facing superior enemies with conventional weapons, incomplete intelligence, and whatever support survives overhead. The Marine Corps gives the Navy the ability to take a warship’s mission all the way to the ground.
