How the UEG and UNSC Actually Govern Humanity

The Unified Earth Government is humanity’s civilian political authority, while the United Nations Space Command exists to defend the human sphere—but twenty-seven years of existential war made that distinction increasingly complicated. This episode examines how Earth, the colonies, civilian administrators, military commanders, and intelligence agencies divide authority across an interstellar civilization. Before the Covenant War, institutions such as the Colonial Administration Authority managed much of colonial life while the UNSC fought the expanding Insurrection. After 2525, survival demanded emergency mobilization, and military power grew as colony after colony disappeared. Admirals sometimes made decisions affecting entire worlds because civilian leaders were days or weeks away by slipspace communication. ONI accumulated extraordinary influence behind the same wartime secrecy. The UEG remained the government humanity was supposedly fighting to preserve, but the UNSC increasingly became the institution that colonies actually encountered when government meant evacuation orders, military convoys, and planetary defense.
