The firing of the Halo Array was the most destructive military action in known galactic history. After every other strategy failed, the surviving Forerunners activated the rings and sent a coordinated pulse across the Milky Way designed to eliminate the sentient life the Flood required to sustain and expand itself. This episode reconstructs the strategic logic behind the decision and the reality of what it meant. The array did not selectively kill infected armies while leaving civilization untouched. Entire populations, ecosystems dependent on complex neural life, and countless species died so the parasite would be denied suitable hosts. The Librarian remained behind on Earth after completing preservation efforts, while surviving personnel at the Lesser Ark initiated the final sequence. At the Maginot Sphere, Offensive Bias continued fighting as the pulse changed the conditions of battle. The Forerunners succeeded in stopping the Flood’s galactic expansion, but the civilization that fired the weapon effectively ended with it. Victory and extinction became the same military operation.
