Offensive Bias was created for one final military purpose: defeat Mendicant Bias long enough for the Halo Array to fire. Unlike its rebellious predecessor, Offensive Bias received tightly defined objectives and command limitations while controlling the remaining Forerunner fleet near the defensive boundary known as the Maginot Sphere. This episode examines the extraordinary final battle between two artificial intelligences commanding forces on a scale beyond any later war. Mendicant Bias entered the fight with a much larger fleet and expected numerical superiority to decide the engagement. Offensive Bias instead fought defensively, sacrificed ships, manipulated formations, and waited for the moment the Halo pulse removed the biological Flood forms supporting the enemy force. Once the array fired, Offensive Bias counterattacked against the now-disrupted fleet and defeated its former counterpart. The battle became the Forerunners’ final conventional military victory. It was achieved only because every living combatant in the galaxy had just become part of the cost of the plan.
