The Greater Ark Falls

The Greater Ark represented one of the Forerunners’ largest strategic installations and a critical component of the original Halo program. Located beyond the immediate dangers of ordinary galactic warfare, it appeared to offer sanctuary, construction capacity, and control over weapons powerful enough to change the course of the Flood conflict. This episode examines the battle that destroyed that confidence. Flood forces and Mendicant Bias brought overwhelming military power against the installation, while internal Forerunner divisions limited the ability to coordinate an effective defense. Star roads—Precursor structures manipulated as weapons—demonstrated a level of destructive capability that conventional Forerunner engineering was poorly equipped to withstand. The Greater Ark and much of the original Halo system were lost, eliminating one of the civilization’s greatest remaining strategic assets. Survivors were forced to depend on the Lesser Ark and the redesigned array. The fall of the Greater Ark marked the point at which even Forerunner megastructures could no longer be treated as secure rear areas.
