The Halo Array and the Two Arks

The Halo Array existed as part of a larger strategic system involving multiple generations of ringworlds and two extraordinary construction facilities known as the Arks. This episode examines the Greater Ark, where the original massive Halo installations were supported, and the later Lesser Ark—Installation 00—built beyond the Milky Way and ultimately responsible for the smaller rings of the final array. Halo was never simply seven weapons floating independently in space. The installations required command systems, replacement capacity, maintenance, indexed specimens, and infrastructure capable of surviving outside the area affected by the final pulse. The original array offered enormous destructive range but proved politically and militarily difficult to control. Later designs reduced ring size while creating a more distributed system capable of simultaneous galactic activation. The Arks ensured that even destroyed installations could potentially be replaced. The project represents military engineering at its most extreme: an entire industrial architecture constructed around the possibility that civilization might need to kill the galaxy in order to save it.
