The Banished war machine is a confederation rather than a perfectly standardized state military. Atriox and his senior war chiefs hold the movement together, but individual clans, packs, shipmasters, and mercenary bands retain their own loyalties, traditions, and ambitions. This episode examines how that loose structure produces both adaptability and internal rivalry. Workshops and armories rebuild Covenant equipment with heavier armor, exposed blades, modified power systems, and designs shaped by Jiralhanae preferences. Salvage crews turn battlefield wreckage into usable matériel, while captured mines and industrial sites feed a campaign economy built on extraction and spoils. Mercenaries join for pay, protection, revenge, or access to technology rather than shared ideology. Commanders are given room to improvise so long as they deliver results and acknowledge stronger authority. The system can fracture when leaders disappear, but it also survives losses that would paralyze a centralized empire. The Banished fight well because their organization treats conquest, industry, recruitment, and personal advancement as parts of the same machine.
