The Banished began when Atriox survived the Covenant’s repeated use of Jiralhanae troops in suicidal assaults and turned his anger against the empire itself. Joined by commanders such as Decimus, he built a movement that valued strength, usefulness, and material reward over obedience to the Prophets. This episode traces the Banished from raiders and rebels into a galactic military power able to absorb clans, mercenaries, engineers, former Covenant troops, and opportunists from many species. Their forces seized ships, workshops, mines, and Forerunner sites, then adapted captured technology to their own designs. On the Ark they challenged the Spirit of Fire; at Zeta Halo they ambushed Infinity and established a major occupation. The Banished are not liberators simply because they rejected the Covenant. They conquer, enslave, and destroy when it serves their ambitions. Their strength lies in offering a brutally clear bargain: abandon old masters, prove your value, and take a share of victory.
