The Capellan Crusades: House Liao Reclaims Its Lost Worlds

The Capellan Crusades were born from House Liao’s refusal to accept the territorial settlement created after the Jihad. Sun-Tzu Liao believed former Capellan worlds transferred to Devlin Stone’s Republic had been taken from a Confederation that had already paid heavily to recover them. This episode traces the long dispute from early post-Jihad fighting through the major 3111–3113 campaign, when rebuilt Capellan armies, hidden stockpiles, Warrior Houses, intelligence networks, and national mythology were committed to reclaiming the lost systems. The Republic ultimately held the disputed border, and the Sarna Armistice restored much of the prewar map. Yet defeat taught Daoshen Liao important lessons about reconnaissance, mobility, combined arms, and the Republic’s dependence on functioning communications. The Crusades therefore reclaimed the grievance more successfully than the territory. When Gray Monday later crippled the HPG network, House Liao attacked again under far more favorable conditions, turning a failed campaign into preparation for a later strategic resurgence.
