The Word of Blake emerged from ComStar’s internal crisis after the Clan Invasion, when Anastasius Focht and Sharilar Mori pushed the Order toward secular reform and repudiated the doctrines associated with Primus Myndo Waterly. Traditionalists rejected the new leadership and fled to the Free Worlds League, where Thomas Marik offered sanctuary, access to HPG operations, and a secure base on Gibson. There the exiles claimed that they—not Terra’s reformers—preserved Jerome Blake’s authentic legacy. This episode examines the political, religious, military, and intelligence consequences of the split. The new movement inherited ComStar-trained personnel, advanced equipment, ROM expertise, and a culture shaped by secrecy, while remaining internally divided between accommodationists, institutional conservatives, and increasingly radical factions. The schism created two organizations competing not only for infrastructure, but for legitimacy and the right to define Blake’s mission.
