THE CLANS

Trueborns, Freeborns, Sibkos, and Bloodnames

S05E06

Trueborns, freeborns, sibkos, and Bloodnames form a connected system through which the Clans reproduce, train, rank, and govern their warrior elite. This episode explains why trueborn warriors are not clones, but candidates created from selected genetic legacies and raised through communal crèches and intensely competitive sibkos. Many fail before completing a Trial of Position and are reassigned to civilian castes. Freeborns are naturally conceived and frequently face institutional prejudice even when they possess equal or superior ability. Bloodnames add another level of exclusivity: an eligible warrior must win a Trial of Bloodright to claim one of the limited positions associated with a founding lineage. Victory brings not just a surname but political influence, genetic prestige, and eligibility for high office. The result is a society that rejects conventional hereditary nobility while creating an aristocracy in which ancestry determines who may compete and combat determines which eligible warrior gains the privilege.
