BattleMechs may dominate the imagery of BattleTech, but wars are won by forces that can scout, hold ground, move supplies, control airspace, and strike targets beyond direct sight. Tanks and hovercraft provide efficient firepower and mobility. Infantry occupies cities, protects installations, conducts ambushes, and performs tasks no giant machine can accomplish. Aerospace fighters contest the skies and attack ships, while conventional aircraft, VTOLs, artillery, engineers, and battle armor expand a commander’s options. This episode introduces the combined-arms battlefield and explains how each branch supports or threatens BattleMechs. It also examines why commanders sometimes overvalue elite ’Mech units while neglecting cheaper forces that can screen flanks, seize objectives, or exploit terrain. A lance can destroy an enemy formation and still lose the campaign if it cannot protect its transport, secure a spaceport, or hold the territory afterward. BattleTech warfare is always larger than the duel in the center of the map. Visit ImaginedBattlefield.com for more military and science fiction.
